Craving for sweets - try this healthy halwa.
This is a sugar free healthy dessert. Add sugar if you want to cater to kids as they are not at an age to appreciate sugar free desserts yet.
As the blogger suggests, this recipe is very forgiving. It can hardly go wrong. I added too much ghee and to compensate I added couple of teaspoons of almond flour, and it complimented the halwa very nicely.
It is tasty as it is! But the blogger served this with ice cream. I love that combination! Do try this holiday season and enjoy some guilt free dessert!
Ingredients
Fig - 10 - chopped 1 cup
Walnuts - 1 cup chopped - was a bit too much(chk notes) - I added more walnuts as I didn’t have pistachios
Pistachios - skipped this as I didn’t have any
Ghee - added 2 tbsp - it was too much
Cardamom powder
Almond powder - not in the original - couple of teaspoons
Sugar - not in the original - I added around 2 tsp
Method
Roughly chop figs(remove stem), walnuts and/or other nuts. You’ll need a thick bottom cooker.
Pressure cook (or insta pot) figs adding very little water, just enough for it to barely cover, for 2 whistles. After the pressure comes down, mash it nicely with a potato masher or immersion blender. At this point, mine barely had water, but the figs were well cooked. If there is more water, ON the stove, and let the water evaporate before mashing. Now add nuts, ghee, sugar(if adding any) and mix well till everything comes together as a halwa and ghee starts to ooze out. Add cardamom powder and switch off the stove.

Notes -
- 1 cup walnuts was a bit too much, may be mixing pistachios as the recipe suggests would’ve been better
