This is one of my favorite tambLis. I love the flavor and color of this particular tambli. To recap (for people who don’t know what tambLi is) - tambli is a buttermilk based south indian dish, which is both cooling and medicinal. You can find other tambLi recipes here.
Enjoy spinach tambLi in these hot summer days to beat the heat.
Ingredients
Spinach - handful
Ghee(or oil)
Jeera - 1 tsp
Green chili - 1 (very mild)
Coconut - approximately 1/4 cup
Thick buttermilk - as needed
Salt to taste
Tadka
Oil
Mustard seeds
Red chili - broken to small pieces
Method
In a pan, add little ghee and jeera. Once it starts to sizzle, add split green chili, sauté for few seconds. Add spinach and fry till it welts. Let it cool a little bit. Grind this along with room temperature coconut and water as needed. Don’t add too much water. Empty this in a container. Add thick buttermilk and salt. Mix well. Make tadka and add to the tambLi. Enjoy this with some hot rice.
