Tried this easy, quick breakfast recipe recently - Rave guliyappa. Loved the taste. It tasted somewhat in between rave idli and rave dosa - more like crunchiness of dosa and softness of idlis put together.
Something different from regular idli dosa. Easy recipe - just mix everything together and pour into guliyappa kallu, roast to crispiness and enjoy with some chutney.
Do try!
Sooji/ Rava(coarse) - 1 cup
Rice flour - 1/4 cup
Poha(thin) - 2 tbsp
Sour butter milk - 1 cup(as needed)
Baking soda - 1/2 tsp
Salt
Onion - finely chopped
Carrot - grated - optional
Dill leaves - optional - recommended by the blogger - I didn’t use
Coriander leaves - finely chopped
Tadka
Chana dal - 1 tsp
Green chili - finely chopped
Ginger - finely chopped
Curry leaves - finely chopped
Method
Soak poha for 5 min. Mash it nicely. In a mixing bowl add rave, rice flour, poha, salt. Add buttermilk and bring it to batter consistency without any lumps. Keep it aside for 10 - 15 min.
Make tadka. Add oil + channa dal - once it changes color add green chili + curry leaves + ginger + onions. Fry till raw smell of onion is gone. Add this to the batter. Add water to bring it to thinner-idli-batter consistency. Add soda, coriander leaves, carrot, dill if adding any.
Pour it in guliyappa pan(appe pan). Roast on low flame, flip and cook another side. Serve hot with chutney.
