Tawa Pulao

Tawa pulao, or Pav Bhaji Pulao. This is another recipe from my drafts. Had tried it long time back. This recipe is from Tarla Dalal. I love her easy to follow short videos on youtube.

I had never heard of this dish before. I was intrigued how pav bhaji masala would taste with rice. I didn’t think they would go well together. But it tasted good. Different than other rice baths for sure.

If you are having a pav bhaji party or chat party, this(along with some raita) could serve as an additional dish to go with the theme.

Do try!

Ingredients

Butter - 3 tbsp
Jeera
Red Chilli - 2-3
Garlic - 2-3 pods
Onion - 1 medium
Capsicum - 1 small
Tomatoes - 2 to 3 medium
Peas - as required

Turmeric powder
Chili powder - 1/2 tsp(medium spicy)
Pav Bhaji masala - 2 tsp

Rice - 1 to 1 and 1/2 cup

Cilantro for garnishing

Method

Make a very coarse paste of red chili and garlic. Chop all the veggies and cilantro finely.  Cook rice and let it cool a little bit.
In a pan take the butter. Add jeera. Once it splutters add red chili-garlic paste. Add onion. Sauté till translucent. Add capsicum. Sauté for some more time. Add tomatoes. Mix and smash. Add turmeric powder, chili powder and pav bhaji masala. Add salt. Mix and smash some more. You could use a potato masher for this. Add frozen peas. Saute till it’s done. Cook till the butter oozes out of the mixture. Add cooked rice and mix well. Garnish with cilantro. Serve hot with or without raita. Enjoy!
