Masala Shavige uppittu/ Masala Semiya Bath

Masala shavige bath is a nice alternative for regular shavige uppittu. No rice, reduced oil, mild masala taste, healthy crunch of the vegetables will make it a healthy indulgence. Increase the fat content and you got yourself an extraordinary potluck recipe.
Try it, you’ll fall in love with it.

My cousin Archana gave me this recipe.

Ingredients

Shavige/Semiya - 2 cups
Water - 3 cups

Onion - 1/2
Tomato - 2

Vegetables - Any Mixed Vegetables (I used 1 green bell pepper and some green peas)
Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
Cilantro for garnishing
Coconut for garnishing

to grind

Garlic - 2 to 3
Ginger - a small peice
Green chillies - 3 (mild)
Cilantro - 4-5 stems with leaves(optional)

(Adjust the masala, onion, tomatoes according to your taste)

Method

Dry roast the semiya till it is lightly browned.
Keep the water for boiling.

Add oil and ghee and make a tadka out of jeera, saunf(a generaous pinch), mustard seeds and channa dal.

Add onion, fry till translucent. Add green bell pepper and peas(or any vegetables of choice) till they are almost done. Add tomatoes and the ground masala. Fry till the tomatoes are mushy. Add hot water. Add only 2 and 1/2 cup first, then add more if needed. Add semiya. Cover the lid for a while and then open it. Adjust the water if necessary.

Enjoy!
